Is wanting an 850 a symptom of the same disease as wanting an XJ-S, or does it mean it metastasized? Of course, anything else in this picture (in the manner of a cat) is fine too.

No, it's perfectly normal for people to have desires for the 850

I want an 850! Its highly contagious disease that clouds your judgement. The best Rx is piles of money.

There's a lot of similarity with the XJ-S V12: V12, cat-like lines, heavier than it really ought to be, luxury, time period, a certain imputed snottiness... I'm just deeply worried: what if I get one and still *have to get the other one too*?

I don't know, maybe I'm just naive, but will either of these cars really cost thousands of dollars to maintain if they are kept as weekend cars and only driven a few thousand miles a year? My plan is to buy a decent one, drive it a bit, then sell it after a few years. I can't understand how that is going to cost me tens of thousands in maintenance costs like everyone says. You try it first and let me know how it goes!

So many computers to break... That's my biggest fear for those.

Well, they're old enough now that most places would no longer emissions test, which opens the door to fixing those problems with non-EPA-approved configurations.
